Material properties:

The characteristics of commercial pure or low alloy nickel are very useful in many fields, such as chemical processes and electronics. Nickel has some resistance to reducing chemicals, but it cannot be replaced by caustic soda. Compared with nickel-based alloys, commercially pure nickel has higher electrical and thermal conductivity, higher Curie temperature, and good magnetostrictive properties. Annealed nickel has low hardness and good ductility and flexibility. These properties, combined with good weldability, make the metal easy to shape. Nickel has a relatively low rate of work hardening, but it can be cooled to moderate levels of strength and maintain its ductility.

Nickel 201 (UNS N02201/ W.NR.2.4061 and 2.4068/N5) is a low-carbon version of Nickel 200.Nickel 201 is particularly suitable for spinning and cold forming because of its inherently low hardness and low rate of work hardening. Compared with nickel 200, nickel 201 is more suitable for use at temperatures higher than 315°C.

Like nickel 200, it has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance in many corrosive environments. Other useful characteristics of the alloy include its magnetic properties, magnetoelasticity, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low gas content, and low evaporative pressure. The corrosion resistance of nickel 201 makes it particularly useful in applications where the purity of products is needed, such as food, man-made fibers, and caustic soda. It is also widely used in structural applications where corrosion resistance is a major consideration. Other uses include chemical barrels, electrical and electronic components, aerospace and missile components. Typical applications are alkali evaporator, combustion vessel, electroplating rod, and electronic components
